BAGRAM AIFIELD, Afghanistan- Afghan National Police, advised by Coalition forces, detained the Taliban district commander of Andar, Ghazni and four others in an operation designed to disrupt insurgent activities in Ghazni Province early this morning.

Maulawi Ahmad Jan is known to be extensively involved in the coordination of insurgent activities in Ghazni Province. He has directed IED and ambush attacks against ANSF and Coalition forces throughout the region.

During the search of Ahmad Jan’s compound, ANP discovered a weapons and ammunition cache.

No shots were fired during the operation and no non-combatants were harmed.

“With Ahmad Jan now detained, Ghazni will be a less dangerous place,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force-82 spokesperson. “Information gained as a result of Ahmad Jan’s capture will undoubtedly result in further interdiction of Taliban fighters and leaders in the area.”

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Early today in Ghazni, credible intelligence led Afghan and Coalition forces to compounds suspected of housing members of the Taliban militant network.

Two suspected militants were wounded and detained in the operation, which took place in Andar district. Weapons, ammunition and grenades were found in the area.

One of the insurgents moved aggressively toward the forces and was injured as they responded. He was provided on-site care for a gunshot wound and was evacuated for additional medical treatment. The other sustained minor injuries during the operation and was also treated on site by Coalition forces.

During the course of operations, an armed male did not comply with verbal warnings, threatened the force and was engaged and killed by the force.

The detainees will be questioned as to their identities and involvement in militant activities.

There were no injuries or deaths to women or children. Some damage was done to buildings in the course of operations.
