NURISTAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Capt. Richard Simonsen, Nuristan Provincial Reconstruction Team Public Affairs)NURISTAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Civil affairs Soldiers with the Nuristan Provincial Reconstruction Team, along with members of the PRT security force, visited Nurgaram Village to work with the subgovernor and deputy subgovernor to foster strategic planning and budgeting Dec. 14.


The PRT met Dr. Mehirulla Muslim, the district subgovernor, and Mr. Abdul Aziz Abdullah, the deputy sub-governor, in the Nurgaram District Center to discuss the techniques involved.

“It is important for the top leaders in the Nurgaram government to outline their vision for the next three to five years,” said U.S. Army Capt. Jyan Bevalian from Sunnyvale, Calif., civil affairs officer for the Nuristan PRT. “The vision will be shared with the line directors who will come up with a plan that will make it work.”

The PRTs are working with district and provincial government line directors to create short- and long-term plans and budgets in order to receive available money from the central government.

“Thank you for sharing the information with us and teaching us how to make our district better,” said Mehirulla. “We have support and classes. It will be a good example for the next generation.”

The PRT plans to work with villages to get ideas up through their leaders to the district government. Then the line directors will help prioritize projects. This will help ensure the district government is meeting the needs of the people.

“We will work on this,” said Mehirulla. “We will work on this and will share the information with the line directors, and I am sure we will have success in the future.”

TF Iron Rakkasan uses PTDS to prevent highway robbery

 

GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Recently, Soldiers from Task Force Iron Rakkasan watched a member of the Afghan Uniformed Police conduct an illegal checkpoint on the route between Ghazni and Sharana. Using the camera system on the Persistent Threat Detection System, Soldiers observed a man standing in the road collecting money from vehicles. The practice is common by insurgents who fund their attacks by taking money from locals.
