Operation Montevideo aimed at avoiding insurgents to reinforce the south of Alah Say Valley, where Afghan and French forces had another security operation, Blacksmith Hammer, going on from Dec.22 to Jan. 2.

TF Richelieu supported the Afghan forces securing Shelwatay Village, Tag Ab Valley. After securing an outer cordon around the village, a shura was organized there with the village malek.

“We have to make the villagers understand there will be development progresses for them if they want to be involved in their own security,” said French Army Col. Bruno Héluin, TF Richelieu commander.

This operation showed how the Afghan forces are involved in security and determined to stay in this area. It also helped the Blacksmith Hammer operation in the north be a success.KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan and French military chiefs have an operational brief before deployment during a combined security operation Dec. 28.
