PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – A dozen representatives from the Paktya provincial government, including Deputy Governor Abdul Rahman Mangal, attended the workshop on media relations hosted by the Paktya Provincial Reconstruction Team at Forward Operating Base Gardez, Afghanistan, April 16.
The workshop provided an opportunity for them to refresh and further develop their skills in conducting interviews and developing public messages for the news media.
U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Sybil Taunton from West Haven, Utah, used her training and experience as the PRT public affairs officer to lead the workshop.
Taunton emphasized the importance of honesty and the timely release information to the public.
“You all represent the government, and in order to gain the trust of the people the most important thing is to always tell the truth,” Taunton said.
Mangal reinforced the importance and Taunton's message to the attendees.
“If any media tries to talk to you, be truthful,” Mangal said. “As long as you have good information, you have to deliver it to the people.”
