    Panjshir Deputy Gov. Abdul Rahman Kabiri, local senators, various district governors, Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team members and Afghan journalists were among those on hand to witness the ceremony. 

    After welcoming everyone, Paryan district Gov. Ghulam Sakhi said the Paryan Justice Center is a step in the right direction for the district. He said it’s important for judges and other legal workers to have a place to conduct business.

Afghan citizen reports munitions cache

PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Coalition forces recovered a large munitions cache in the Bagram district here Aug. 10. 

Responding to an Afghan citizen who uncovered the cache while digging, a coalition forces explosive ordnance disposal team secured the site, detonated munitions that could not be safely removed, and transported the remaining munitions to Bagram Airfield for disposal.

Taliban attack mosque on first day of Ramadan

KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan (August 11, 2010) – At approximately 8 a.m., Taliban fighters fired four rocket-propelled grenades at a mosque near Asadabad. One of the RPGs directly hit the mosque, breaking windows and cutting down a tree. No personnel were injured.

Panjshir government aiding citizens affected by floods

PANJSHIR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - The Panjshir government with assistance from the Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team is aiding citizens affected by flooding that started Aug. 4 in the Abdullah Khel Valley.

Heavy rainfall in the Abdullah Khel Valley led to flooding and severe erosion of the river bank. Some roads are impassable and some farm land flooded along the river. 

“Some of these roads get washed away several times a year, and the villagers rebuild them,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Phillip Baker, Panjshir PRT civil engineer and San Antonio native. “My job is to evaluate the historical trends and educate the people on ways to make their infrastructure more sustainable.”

Parwan citizens report IED, UXO sites

PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Police responded to the call of concerned citizens in Charikar and discover one improvised explosive device and three unexploded ordinance sites July 28. 

UXO is a major problem in Afghanistan due to the years of war with the former Soviet Union, however, ANP explosive ordinance disposal teams are trained to safely recover and dispose of the dangerous devices.
