    The stateside headquarters component includes about 130 people from across 42 states, with the majority from Minnesota, Wisconsin or Iowa. Afghan commandos secure Barg-e Matal

 NURISTAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Soldiers from the Afghan National Army, with support from their coalition partners, conducted an air assault July 25 in order to reinforce security in Barg-e Matal, located in the Nuristan province.

Initial reports indicate the security forces did not encounter any resistance from the Taliban.  

The combined assault force took deliberate steps to avoid hurting any innocent civilians during the operation.

Combined forces conduct air assault, secure Chenar

KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), with support from their coalition partners, conducted an air assault July 19 to help secure the town of Chenar, located in the Marawara district.


The combined force of more than 400 members of the Afghan National Army, Afghan Border Police, and U.S. Army Soldiers from Task Force Bastogne, conducted the operation in order to further disrupt insurgent operations throughout the area.

Taliban fragmenting puts populace in danger

WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Taliban factions in Northern Wardak are engaging in open warfare against one another as a result of apparent disagreements over command and control of the insurgent network there, according to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. 


This most recent incident of fighting started late last night involving anywhere from 50 to 200 fighters and reports of several wounded and killed fighters have already begun surfacing. This incident is an indicator that insurgent networks are showing signs of internal distress.  

Marawara air assault combines Afghan-U.S. security efforts

KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan (July 2) – A combined forces operation to search for weapons caches and insurgents, lead by the Afghan National Security Forces with Coalition forces support, continued in the Marawara district, today.

The operation had begun, with an air assault combined force of about 700 ANSF and Coalition forces, at 3 a.m. near the town of Daridam, June 27.
