PAKTIKA PROVINCE, Afghanistan (24 Dec. 09) – U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Luis Tunake received a surprise telephone call from President Barack Obama at Forward Operating Base Sharana, Afghanistan, Dec. 24.
“I was very surprised and excited when I got the call because this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to speak with our Nation’s president,” Tunake said. “When we talked, he wished me a Merry Christmas and thanked me for serving in the United States Navy,” he continued.
This year, U.S. President Barack Obama, called ten deployed service members in order to wish them a happy holiday and thank them for their honorable service. Tunake was one of those ten. Tunake is a hospital corpsman from Denver, Colo. He is currently serving with the Paktika Provincial Reconstruction Team.
