KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan –Task Force Dragon and Black Rock lead a recon operation in south of Tagab valley, an area still relatively unknown, to establish contacts in the area, and assess different engineering project, Dec. 20-23.
During the three day operation, a shura had been organized with the Task Force La Fayette commander, French Brig. Gen. Marcel Druart; the 3rd Brigade, 201st Afghan National Army commander, Brig. Gen. Paikan Zamrai; Task Force Dragon commander, French Col. Benoit Durieux; and the Tagab deputy governor, Mr. Akhunzada.
The TF La Fayette servicemen and women were also able to establish the location of a future bridge that will connect the Vermont road in the west to the “provincial reconstruction team” in the east.
They also made several contacts in the south of Tagab valley, which was one of the key points of the operation.
“First of all, it was for us to gain a foothold in a new area of responsibility”, explained the French command sergeant major responsible for the civilian military action staff. “In this context, we go into the villages, (make) contact with local officials and establish a first evaluation of population needs. After, we see at our level what we can do for them. Concretely on this operation, we have studied the possibility to build a (waterway) to straighten a river in order to limit the erosion; next, in a second village, we met with the population about a police station set up. Finally, in a third village, we (passed out blankets) for winter.”
